At Kratom Eye, we don’t just offer premium kratom powder and capsules, we’re also proud to ship live kratom plants and cuttings to customers across the United States. If you’ve recently purchased a live kratom plant or non-rooted cutting from our Kratom Tree Cuttings category, it’s essential to understand how to properly handle your shipment upon arrival.
This blog will walk you through the necessary steps to give your kratom plant the best chance to thrive, from opening the package to acclimating it to your environment.
Immediate Instructions Upon Delivery
All kratom plant packages from Kratom Eye are shipped with atmospheric control in mind. When your plant or cutting arrives, open the package immediately. Do not leave it unopened, this can kill the plant.
Simulating the Right Humidity Environment
Your plant arrives inside a water bottle or enclosed container that simulates a tropical, humid environment. Do not leave the plant exposed to open air for more than 20 minutes after unboxing.
To avoid transplant shock, you’ll need to recreate this humid environment:
- Place the plant (still in its pot or rockwool cube) inside a clear storage bin or plastic enclosure.
- Spray the interior with clean water to raise humidity.
- Leave the lid closed except for a 20-minute opening once daily for the first few days.
Acclimating Your Kratom Plant
Kratom trees (Mitragyna speciosa) are native to tropical Southeast Asia, which means they thrive in warm, humid conditions. Here’s a proven step-by-step acclimation process:
- Keep the plant inside a clear bin or a greenhouse-style container (clear storage bins work great & they’re inexpensive).
- Open the bin lid once a day for about 20 minutes to prevent mold and allow air exchange.
- Every other day, increase the size of the bin’s air opening by ½ to 1 inch to slowly expose the plant to open air.
- If you see signs of wilting, close the bin immediately, mist the plant, and restart the process at a slower pace.
This slow transition helps prevent shock and increases the survival rate of both rooted plants and unrooted cuttings.
Rooted Kratom Plants: Post-Delivery Care
If your order contains a rooted kratom plant, follow these care steps:
- Keep the temperature consistently above 65°F, ideally 70–80°F.
- After unboxing, check the soil for moisture. Water only if it feels dry.
- Leave the plant in its original pot until it’s ready to be transplanted.

Non-Rooted Kratom Cuttings: Cloning Tips
If you’ve received a non-rooted cutting, extra care is needed to encourage healthy root growth.
Recommended Tools & Supplies:
- Clear storage bin (details above)
- Rockwool cubes (included in your order)
- Empty egg crate tray to hold individual cuttings (in an upright position).
- Cloning gel or woody plant rooting hormone
- Rooting accelerator nutrients (used only after root formation)
- Plant heating mat (for consistent warmth)
- Spray bottle (for misting regularly)
Cloning Instructions:
- Apply rooting hormone gel to the cut edge of the stem.
- You can replace or make sure the rockwool cube your cutting arrived in is moist but not wet nor soaked.
- Place the cutting back into the moistened rockwool cube or your own setup.
- Store in a clear plastic bin with indirect warmth — use a plant heating mat underneath to keep it warm, not hot – kratom cuttings tend to root fastest when there is adequate heat/humidity.
- Mist daily to maintain a moist, humid environment.
- It’s best to keep the cuttings away from direct light until the roots start to appear (this can induce rooting vs growing due to the darkness of soil, etc…)
Avoid over-drying the space; too much heat and not enough moisture can kill your cutting.
Environmental Factors: Temperature, Light & Placement
Whether you’ve ordered rooted or non-rooted kratom plants, placement matters.
- Temperature: Ideal range is 70°F–85°F. Do not allow it to drop below 50°F.
- Humidity: The higher, the better. Mimic the tropical climate of Southeast Asia.
- Light: Natural sunlight is ideal, but grow lights can be a great alternative if you live in a low-light or colder climate.
In winter, keep the plant indoors in a well-lit area or under grow lights. In summer, you can move it outdoors, gradually adjusting it to direct light.
Watering Your Kratom Plant
Watering frequency will vary by environment, but here are some general guidelines:
- Only water when the soil or rockwool feels dry to the touch.
- Avoid overwatering, kratom doesn’t like soggy roots.
- Mist the plant daily to keep the humidity high, especially during the acclimation phase.
